Florida’s drug coverage story for 2027 has two halves. The standalone side is steady, with 11 plans available in every county because Florida is a single Part D region. The Medicare Advantage side is shrinking, which means some Floridians will get a notice that their plan is ending and will need a new way to cover prescriptions.
Plan counts on this page come from our count of the CMS 2027 plan benefit files; Medicare Plan Finder counts can differ slightly. Federal limits, such as the $700 deductible and $2,400 cap, are on the 2027 Part D hub.
Key Takeaways
| Florida measure | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| MA plans, 2026 to 2027 | 611 to 560 | CMS state fact sheets, reported September 2026 |
| MA plans filed for 2027 | 554 individual plans | Our count of CMS 2027 plan filings |
| Special needs plans | 251, or 45% of the total | Our count |
| Plans with a Part B giveback in the name | 70 | Our count |
| Counties with the most MA plans | Hillsborough 118, Pasco 114, Pinellas 112 | Our count |
| Counties with the fewest | Union 14, Suwannee 13, Monroe 2 | Our count |
Our count uses individual plans in the CMS plan benefit files and may differ from the CMS fact sheet total, which uses its own counting rules.
Monroe County, which covers the Florida Keys, stands out. With only 2 MA plans in our count, standalone Part D paired with Original Medicare is a bigger part of the picture there than in Tampa Bay.
Read the non-renewal letter. Plans that leave must send notice in the fall. It explains the date coverage ends.
Pick a new path. Choose another MA plan with drug coverage, or Original Medicare plus a standalone Part D plan.
Use the extra time if you need it. A plan that is not renewing generally gives members a Special Enrollment Period that runs past December 7, into early 2027.
Check Medigap rights. Losing an MA plan that leaves your area gives you a federal guaranteed right to buy certain Medigap policies without health questions, within set time limits.
Do not leave a gap in drug coverage. Going 63 days or more without creditable drug coverage can add a late enrollment penalty.

Two homes, one plan: a standalone Part D plan is tied to the region of your permanent address. If Florida is your permanent home and you spend months in another state, ask the plan which pharmacies outside Florida are in network and whether mail-order delivery is available.
Changing your permanent address to or from Florida opens a Special Enrollment Period for a new plan. If you are moving out of Florida, the companies may be the same but the plans and prices will not be; the state-by-state comparison shows each state’s lineup.
