For Anthem Medicare Part D in 2027, our count of CMS 2027 plan filings finds just two standalone drug plans tied to Anthem: Blue MedicareRx Value Plus and Blue MedicareRx Premier, filed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont. In Anthem’s other states, people who want Anthem drug coverage may need an Anthem Medicare Advantage plan that includes Part D, where one is offered.

Anthem, part of Elevance Health, is the Blue Cross Blue Shield company in 14 states. News reports in fall 2025 said Anthem would stop selling its own individual standalone Part D plans starting in 2026. Our review of the CMS 2027 plan files shows what is left for 2027: one shared New England contract in which Anthem’s Connecticut company is a partner.
This page covers Anthem only. It explains those two plans, puts their reported premiums side by side with our own yearly math, and lays out the Anthem Medicare Advantage route in other states. For every Blue company’s 2027 drug plans, see Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Part D 2027.
Key Takeaways
Both plans sit under one CMS contract, S2893, marketed as Blue MedicareRx. The legal sponsors listed in the plan files are Anthem Insurance Companies with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont. Medicare Plan Finder counts can differ slightly from our count.

Who can join: You must live in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island or Vermont and have Medicare Part A or Part B. Living in another Anthem state, such as New York or Ohio, does not make you eligible.
The plan’s 2027 Summary of Benefits lists cost sharing by tier. The figures below are for a one-month supply at a preferred retail pharmacy, the lowest-cost retail option. Standard pharmacies charge more, and copays can change if your drug moves tiers.
| Tier (one-month supply, preferred retail) | Value Plus | Premier |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1, preferred generic | $0 | $1 |
| Tier 2, generic | $3 | $7 |
| Tier 3, preferred brand | 17% | $30 |
| Tier 4, non-preferred drug | 35% | 35% |
| Tier 5, specialty | 25% | 33% |

Value Plus applies its $700 deductible to covered drugs, while Premier has none. Both plans cap covered insulin at $35 a month and list most Part D vaccines at no cost.
The two plans differ by $259.20 a month, or $3,110.40 a year, in premium. Because Medicare caps covered drug costs at $2,400 in 2027, we can figure the most a Value Plus member could pay for the year and set it next to Premier’s premiums.
| Yearly figure (2027) | Value Plus | Premier |
|---|---|---|
| Premiums for 12 months | $306.00 | $3,416.40 |
| Most you can pay for covered drugs | $2,400 | $2,400 |
| Highest possible yearly total | $2,706.00 | $5,816.40 |
| Lowest possible yearly total | $306.00 | $3,416.40 |
Our math from the premiums in the plan’s 2027 Summary of Benefits and the CMS $2,400 cap. Assumes all drugs are covered and filled in network.
What the math shows: Even in the worst case, Value Plus totals less than Premier’s premiums alone, if your drugs are covered the same way on both. Premier could still matter if a drug you need is covered only on its formulary, so check both drug lists.
